This synthesis will be on interest to transit agency professionals, campus communities, and the consultants who work with them in dealing with the provision of campus transit service. The report offers survey information from 30 campus transit agencies and includes insights into the lessons learned and issues related to planning, implementing, and operating campus transit service. The focus is primarily on recent efforts to provide comprehensive, high-quality public transit services, such as unlimited access systems, as part of broader university (from traditional college towns to large urban areas) efforts to implement transportation demand strategies. These efforts are motivated by a desire to reduce congestion and parking demand and increase mobility within campuses during times of enrollment growth and increases in campus activities. Three case studies with experiences thought to be transferable are also provided.
